Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has publicly accused Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed of insulting his late father and threatening physical violence during a recent official visit.
The incident reportedly occurred on April 19, 2025, during Vice President Kashim Shettima’s visit to Bauchi.
Tuggar recounted that while travelling in a vehicle with the Vice President, Governor Mohammed interjected in a conversation, insulted his late father, and threatened to slap him.
Tuggar stated that Deputy Governor Muhammad Auwal Jatau also threatened him, but did not act on it. He emphasised that no physical altercation took place and criticised the governor’s son for spreading false reports on social media.
The altercation has intensified the political rivalry between Tuggar and Governor Mohammed. Tuggar criticised the governor’s agricultural policies, questioning the state’s lack of leadership in grain or livestock production despite land allocations to companies.
He also addressed speculations about his potential gubernatorial ambitions in 2027, neither confirming nor denying them.
In response, the Bauchi State government, through Chief of Staff Dr. Aminu Hassan Gamawa, condemned Tuggar’s remarks as undiplomatic and opportunistic.
Gamawa accused Tuggar of seeking political relevance and failing in his duties as Foreign Affairs Minister, citing diplomatic setbacks and mismanagement.
He defended Governor Mohammed’s administration, highlighting achievements in agriculture and infrastructure.
