The widow of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad, has accused her father-in-law of stalling efforts to conduct a DNA test to confirm the paternity of her son, Liam.
This development comes after a Chief Magistrate Court in Ikorodu granted an order for Omowunmi to be served with notice of a pending DNA test application. Reports indicate that initial attempts to serve her were unsuccessful, prompting the court to order service by posting the notice at her last known address.
Through her legal team, Omowunmi revealed that the delay in conducting the DNA test lies with Mohbad’s father, who has avoided reaching an agreement on the test location. She acknowledged rejecting the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan as a location but noted that Mohbad’s father also dismissed her choice of Lagoon Hospitals.
Omowunmi and her lawyers suggested alternative locations, including The Eko Hospital and Reddington Hospitals, but they claim to have received no response from Mohbad’s father.
Additionally, Omowunmi’s legal representatives accused Mohbad’s father of defaming her by insinuating publicly that she was unwilling to conduct the test. They further criticized his comments, which they claim insulted her son by implying he is illegitimate. They demanded an apology, warning that Omowunmi may proceed with the DNA test independently if the delays persist.
The controversy has sparked debate across social media platforms:
- @Thefirstladyomorewa: “You reject his and want him to accept yours. That’s funny.”
- @Vesselshot: “I think UCH is best; no one will manipulate it there.”
- @Simply Debbz: “You can conduct the DNA in two places even for clarity purpose. Dad’s choice and your choice.”
- @Olasunbookandeji: “In this case, the court should choose for them if they no trust each other.”
- @Softlifeofficial: “So una dey reject DNA location again. Mohbad really made a wrong choice.”
Following Mohbad’s tragic death, there has been significant public pressure for a DNA test to confirm the paternity of his son. Mohbad’s father has been vocal in calling for the test, a stance supported by singer Cynthia Morgan. However, Omowunmi initially resisted the request, stating that no one had the right to demand such a test and that her son would not fall victim to societal pressures like his late father.
The ongoing disagreements have fueled speculation and highlighted the strained relationship between Omowunmi and her father-in-law.
The delay in conducting the DNA test continues to divide public opinion. While some advocate for a court-appointed hospital to resolve the matter impartially, others emphasize the need for both parties to reach a mutual agreement for the child’s welfare.
