Emeka Chochoo, the former manager of Nollywood star John Okafor, commonly known as Mr Ibu, has disclosed the reasons behind the police summoning Mr Ibu’s adopted daughter, Jasmine Chioma Okafor, and his two sons, Daniel and Val.
They were summoned for interrogation regarding the administration of funds donated by well-meaning Nigerians for Mr Ibu’s recent medical treatment.
Actress Doris Ogala revealed on Wednesday night that Jasmine and Mr Ibu’s sons were detained at Alagbon Police Station on suspicion of transferring a significant amount, estimated at N300 million, from the contribution account to a personal account.
The funds were intended for Mr Ibu’s medical bills, as the actor recently underwent surgery resulting in the amputation of one of his legs. The situation escalated when Mr Ibu’s wife, Stella Maris Okafor, allegedly sought transparency and accused Jasmine of misusing the funds, with intentions of using the money to buy a new property.
In response, Emeka Chochoo clarified that the police summons was not an arrest but an inquiry into Mr Ibu’s statement. Val was reportedly left out of the matter as he was unaware of the situation after recently returning to the country.
The dispute over the management of the donated funds took an unexpected turn, given that Mr Ibu’s wife and adopted daughter had previously appealed for financial support from Nigerians.
