The Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has announced the reopening of the Onitsha Head Bridge drug market, popularly known as ‘Ogbo Ogwu.’
NAFDAC stated that shop owners must meet strict administrative conditions before reopening to prevent a recurrence of the issues that led to the market’s closure.
According to a statement signed by Adeyeye on Wednesday, shop owners are required to complete documentation and clearance procedures before their shops can be unsealed.
To ensure compliance with regulatory standards, a dedicated NAFDAC desk has been established to facilitate the process efficiently.
Only shops that fulfill the necessary conditions will be permitted to resume operations.
The statement highlighted that the market was shut down for a month for sanitization and regulatory enforcement.
It further emphasized that all shop owners, through their union, must sign an undertaking and agree to penalties for past violations of distribution regulations before being allowed to operate again.
