The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out a strategic air operation targeting terrorist strongholds in the Talala and Ajigin areas of Borno State.

This mission, which is part of Operation Kalachen Wuta II under the broader framework of Operation Hadin Kai, was conducted on May 7, 2025, at around 5:30 p.m.

It specifically targeted locations believed to be under the control of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), where intelligence reports suggested that militants were regrouping and assembling logistics in preparation for future attacks.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the operation was based on actionable intelligence gathered through persistent surveillance and reconnaissance.

These efforts uncovered significant ISWAP activity in the targeted regions, including the movement of fighters, weapons, and supplies. The terrorists were reportedly using the area to set up temporary logistics bases, potentially aimed at launching coordinated assaults on civilian and military targets.

Following confirmation of these activities, the Air Component of the NAF launched a precision strike using guided munitions. The airstrikes destroyed multiple structures, weapons stockpiles, and transport assets. Several ISWAP fighters were also neutralised in the process, with others fleeing the area in disarray.

Military sources described the attack as a major success, both tactically and psychologically. The disruption caused by the operation is expected to delay or prevent planned insurgent actions, particularly during the period leading up to the Eid celebrations.

The NAF reiterated its commitment to pursuing terrorist elements wherever they are found and emphasised its determination to protect national security and civilian lives through decisive, intelligence-led operations.
