NaijaPr X Account Hacked: Urgent Call for Stronger Security Measures

On 9 February at 5:30 p.m. (WAT), NaijaPr’s official X (formerly Twitter) account was compromised, with the attacker posting misleading crypto-related content. Despite using X’s recommended security measures, including two-factor authentication (2FA), our account was breached, raising concerns about the platform’s security effectiveness.

We immediately initiated the recovery process, but X has yet to respond meaningfully. The hacker changed NaijaPr’s registered email and phone number, preventing us from regaining access, disrupting our work, and damaging our credibility.

After so much effort to contact X, X’s slow response to resolve the issue raises alarms about its ability to protect verified accounts, particularly media outlets. This attack reflects the increasing vulnerability of Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). Platforms like X must adopt stronger protections like hardware security keys and AI-driven anomaly detection.

This breach is not just a cybersecurity issue—it threatens press freedom and digital journalism integrity. Naija_Pr is the most followed Nigerian media account on X, therefore we urge X to:
– Strengthen security for verified accounts.
– Improve response times for security breaches.
– Implement priority escalation for critical accounts.
– Enhance 2FA with more robust authentication methods.

To our readers, while we work to restore our account, please follow our website and @Naija_Pr.threads. We remain committed to transparency and digital security and calls on X to take urgent action to prevent similar threats.
