The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Federal Capital Territory Command, said it had arrested 34 suspects in a raid on an illegal drug warehouse in the FCT.

FCT Commander, Kabir Tsakuwa said this during an interview with reporters in Abuja on Thursday.

Tsukuwa said some of the suspects have been charged and those identified as users are receiving counselling.

According to him, “The operation was necessitated by the need to combat drug abuse, especially as Nigeria prepares for handover to a new administration.

“The command initiated ‘Operation Tsaro’ on May 8 to shut down drug centres and apprehend dealers in the FCT.

“Our operatives seized a variety of illicit substances including cannabis sativa, methamphetamine, tramadol, codeine, Rohypnol, and other psychotropic substances.”

Mr Tsakuwa said the crackdown would continue until authorities phased out the use of hard drugs from circulation to reduce criminal activity in the FCT.

“Some of the drug hotspots raided include Torabora, Dei-dei, Wuse Zone 4, Wuse Zone 3, Banex, Garki Village, Area 1, Gwarinpa (Village, 3rd Avenue), Abattoir in Karu, Gwagwalada, Kabusa, and Kuchigoro IDP Camp.

“While some of the arrested individuals have been charged and taken to court, others who are users are undergoing counselling sessions,” he added.
