The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, handed over N98 million worth of cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday.
Bamidele Makinde, Controller of Customs, Ogun 1 Command, handed over illegal substances to NDLEA in the state capital, Abeokuta.
According to him, the Command confiscated 1,382 packs of Cannabis Sativa. These packs were smuggled through illegal routes in Ogun State.
Makinde disclosed that the handover of the seized Indian hemp indicated the synergy between NCS and NDLEA. He also assured that Customs would continue to work hard to prevent the importation of illicit drugs into the nation.
The NDLEA team, led by its Ogun State commander, Ibiba Odili, received the items. A field test was conducted on the exhibits using the UN-approved kit, and the result was positive for cannabis
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently intercepted 2.7kg of cannabis, which was concealed in dried onions meant for export.
