The Benue State Government has officially launched the establishment of a new state university following the signing of a contract agreement with construction firms to begin development.
The project, which has been in planning stages for several months, marks a significant step in expanding higher education opportunities within the state.
During the signing ceremony held in Makurdi, government representatives emphasized that the new institution will help address the growing demand for university admission among Benue students.
The university is expected to feature modern facilities across various academic disciplines, with particular focus on programs relevant to the state’s economic needs such as agriculture, technology, and environmental sciences.
State officials confirmed that the first phase of the new university construction will include lecture halls, administrative blocks, and student housing facilities.
The contractors have committed to delivering these initial structures within an agreed timeline to enable the university to commence academic activities as scheduled.
Governor Hyacinth Alia, who presided over the signing, stated that the state project aligns with his administration’s commitment to educational development.
“This university will not only create access to quality education but will also generate employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth in our state,” he remarked.
The establishment comes as part of broader efforts to improve Benue state’s education sector, which has faced challenges including overcrowding in existing institutions.
While no official date has been announced for the university’s opening, Benue State Government have assured that admission processes will begin once necessary infrastructure and accreditation requirements are met. The project will be closely monitored to ensure compliance with approved standards and timely completion.
