Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has inaugurated a three-member investigative panel to examine allegations of misconduct against the suspended Chairman of Chanchaga Local Government Council, Alhaji Aminu Ladan.

The panel, headed by High Court Judge Justice Abdullahi Mikhail, includes Lawyer Bala Marika and Abubakar Salisu as members, with Lawyer Ibrahim Mohammed Babangida serving as Secretary.

Governor Bago emphasised that the panel’s inauguration aligns with legal provisions, particularly Section 31(3) of the Niger State Local Government Law 2001 (as amended).

He urged the members to conduct their duties with diligence, fairness, and transparency to uncover the truth behind the allegations. The governor also assured the panel of the necessary support to carry out its assignment effectively.

The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Niger State, Nasiru Mu’azu, clarified that the governor’s action complies with the state’s local government laws. The panel’s terms of reference include investigating the allegations against the suspended chairman, gathering and examining evidence, and ensuring all testimonies—whether written or oral—are given under oath or declaration.

The suspended chairman has been embroiled in a legal battle following his suspension and an impeachment move by local government councillors. The allegations, outlined in a letter dated July 28, 2025, accuse him of misconduct, financial mismanagement, lack of accountability, and incompetence. The councillors, who signed the letter, cited these grievances as grounds for their actions.

The investigative panel’s findings will play a crucial role in determining the next steps regarding the suspended chairman’s tenure and the resolution of the ongoing dispute.
