The National Pension Commission has granted permission to Niger State pension fund managers to begin returning 7.5% of the Contributory Pension Scheme, or CPS, to those who are exempt from paying taxes.
Mallam Nasiru Saidu Namaska, the director general of the Niger State Pension Board, made this announcement during the payment of gratuity to Batch Nine beneficiaries in Minna, Niger state.
Administrators of pension funds will issue a letter of no objection this week, Namaska indicated, opening the door for reimbursements to begin right now.
He praised Governor Umar Mohammed Bago for sending retirement benefits monies on schedule and stated that the objective is to finish the reimbursements by the end of December.
He gave his word that the board is making every effort to guarantee that retirement payments are paid on schedule.
The exclusion of retired permanent secretaries, some of whom would be included in the tenth batch, is the reason for the gap in the number of Batch Nine recipients, he said.
He advised pensioners to be patient since everyone will receive their retirement benefits when they are due.
Namaska also encouraged seniors to take part in the AM ALIVE verification process, which is set to start in January 2025.
“Pensioners will need to visit any bank of their choice to complete the verification process,” he said.
