The Niger State commissioner of police, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, has directed police officers across the state to maintain professionalism and political neutrality ahead of the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 1, 2025.
He gave this directive during a strategic meeting held in Minna with senior officers, including heads of departments, tactical commanders, area commanders, and divisional police officers from all 25 local government areas.
With campaign activities now officially underway and expected to continue until October 31, Elleman warned officers against any form of political bias.
The commissioner of police emphasised the importance of impartiality when dealing with all political parties and stakeholders. “Officers are therefore warned to be professional in dealing with all political parties involved,” he stated.
Elleman also addressed security preparations for the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, expected to take place on Friday, June 6, 2025. He ordered officers to strictly follow operational guidelines for the festive period.
These include enhanced visibility policing, coordinated show-of-force exercises, and the adequate deployment of personnel and resources to protect Eid praying grounds and ensure public safety across the state.
Additionally, the commissioner commended the ongoing efforts of the police in curbing thuggery and related criminal activities in Minna and other key urban areas. He noted that the threat of thuggery has been significantly reduced but urged officers to sustain and improve on the strategies that have produced these results.
