Nigerian Army is set to provide its personnel with new uniforms and essential kits as part of a comprehensive effort to standardise operational readiness and improve morale.

The announcement was made by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, during a recent visit to the Godwin Ally Barracks in Ogoja, Cross River State. This initiative falls under the broader ‘Soldiers First’ program, which prioritises the welfare and effectiveness of military personnel.

During his assessment tour of formations under the 82 Division, the Army Chief emphasised his commitment to enhancing the living and working conditions of soldiers.

In addition to the distribution of new uniforms, he directed the immediate renovation of dilapidated accommodations within the barracks to ensure better living standards for troops and their families. The visit also highlighted ongoing efforts to increase the Ration Cash Allowance, enabling commanders to provide improved feeding for soldiers.

Furthermore, Lieutenant General Oluyede revealed plans to revamp schools in Army barracks across the country. This educational initiative aims to provide quality schooling for soldiers’ children, acknowledging that family welfare is integral to troop morale.

Nigerian Army Chief urged personnel to maintain professionalism and discipline in their duties while emphasising the importance of collaboration with other security agencies and host communities. He expressed appreciation for the troops’ dedication and resilience despite challenging operational demands, reinforcing the Army’s role in ensuring lasting peace and stability nationwide.

This visit is part of the COAS’s ongoing tour to assess unit readiness and engage directly with personnel to address their needs.
