Comedian Ayo Makun, also known as AY, has responded to allegations made by his colleague Julius Agwu that he hung up on him during a phone call. The feud between AY and Basketmouth had already been making headlines after AY spoke about their strained relationship during an interview.
The root of their tension, AY claimed, was over an outstanding payment of N30,000 for a performance he had done on Basketmouth’s behalf.
Julius Agwu then recounted a separate incident where AY had allegedly cut the phone call on him after he questioned why AY was planning a show on the same day as his regular comedy show, “Laugh for Christ’s sake,” which took place every Easter Sunday before AY’s show.
AY has now denied these allegations and provided evidence to the contrary. He shared photos of his family hanging out with Julius Agwu’s family and screenshots of the dates on which both comedians held their shows. AY also warned that he would file a slanderous lawsuit against Agwu if he continued to make unfounded accusations.
Projecting peace across boards doesn’t make me a weakling. Neither am I seeking any form of unnecessary friendship that is laced with negativity,” AY wrote in his statement.
The ongoing dispute highlights the tension between comedians in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
