In a decisive operation, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma successfully rescued nine individuals who had been abducted by terrorists. The victims, comprising three women and six children, were freed following an ambush executed by the military in the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the operation, Captain David Adewusi, the rescue mission was launched after soldiers received reliable intelligence regarding the movement of the kidnappers.

The victims were originally taken from Garin Bature village in the neighbouring Sokoto State’s Sabon Birni Local Government Area. The terrorists were intercepted while travelling along the Isa–Shinkafi–Kaura Namoda road.

During the ensuing confrontation, the criminals attempted to use their captives as human shields.

However, the troops overpowered them in a fierce gun battle. Scores of terrorists were neutralised in the exchange, while others were forced to flee with gunshot wounds. The swift and precise action of the soldiers prevented any harm from coming to the rescued individuals.

Following the operation, the freed women and children were transported to the General Hospital in Shinkafi for necessary medical examinations to ensure their well-being. They have since been handed over to officials of the Shinkafi Local Government to facilitate their reunion with anxious family members.

The military also recovered significant items from the scene, including an AK-47 rifle with two magazines, 20 rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle, three mobile phones, and a desert camouflage uniform. Operation Fansan Yamma reassured residents of the North-West and parts of North-Central Nigeria of its unwavering commitment to continue strong operations until terrorism and banditry are completely eradicated. The public is also urged to continue providing credible information to support ongoing security efforts.
