Nigerian Troops Launch Renewed Assault on Terrorist Strongholds in Zamfara

In a significant escalation of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts, troops from Operation FANSAN YANMA, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have conducted fresh and coordinated offensives against terrorist enclaves in the Zango area of Zamfara State.

The operations, which took place on September 4th and 5th, targeted the difficult terrain of the Zango hills and its surrounding regions, a known sanctuary for armed groups.

The military action employed a combined arms approach for maximum effect. Nigerian Air Force jets initiated the assault by conducting precise airstrikes on identified terrorist hideouts, softening the targets from the air.

Following this, ground troops advanced alongside operatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). These forces stormed the high grounds and directly engaged the criminals in their fortified positions.

In the aftermath of the aerial and ground assault, troops conducted a thorough overnight search operation in Zango village. While no direct contact with terrorists was reported during this sweep, intelligence gathered from intercepted communications within terrorist channels indicated the operation was a success.

The intercepts revealed that the offensive resulted in as many as 15 terrorist fatalities, with several others sustaining significant gunshot wounds. This latest offensive is part of a sustained military campaign to dismantle and permanently dislodge terrorist factions from their strongholds in Nigeria’s North-West region.
