Nigerian troops have successfully eliminated a notorious arms dealer during a targeted operation in Plateau State.

The mission, executed by the 3 Division and Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE from September 4 to 6, is considered a major strategic victory in disrupting the supply lines that fuel banditry and violence across the North-Central region.

Security sources identified the individual as a high-value target who had long been a key supplier of weapons and logistical support to various criminal groups operating within Plateau and neighboring states.

The operation began on September 4, when acting on precise intelligence, troops located the dealer at a hideout where he was receiving medical treatment for previously sustained gunshot wounds. He was apprehended and, during interrogation, confessed to his role as an arms supplier and even led the soldiers to one of his concealed weapons caches.

The situation escalated on September 6 when troops returned to the hideout for a follow-up investigation. They were met with intense gunfire from the dealer’s accomplices, triggering a fierce exchange. During the ensuing gun battle, the suspect attempted to flee but was neutralized by the soldiers. His injured gang members were forced to retreat.

A subsequent search of the area yielded the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and two magazines. While the seized arsenal may seem limited, military officials emphasize that the true success of the operation lies in the deliberate targeting of the criminal infrastructure itself.

By focusing on and eliminating key figures within the arms supply chain, the military aims to systematically weaken bandit groups, ultimately leading to a sustained reduction in violence and improved security for the region.
