The National Judicial Council (NJC) has dismissed petitions filed against two Federal High Court judges presiding in Kano State, ruling that the allegations lacked merit.
The decision was announced following the council’s 109th meeting held on June 25, 2025, under the leadership of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat M. O. Kekere-Ekun.
The petitions, filed by Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, targeted Hon. Justices A. M. Liman and S. A. Amobeda in a joint complaint, along with a separate petition against Hon. Justice Muhammad Auwal Haruna.
After thorough deliberation, the NJC determined that the allegations were unsubstantiated and subsequently dismissed both petitions. While the specific details of the complaints were not disclosed, the council emphasised that its decision was based on a careful review of the facts.
The meeting also addressed five other complaints related to judicial appointments in various states, including Plateau and Kano High Courts, as well as Sharia Courts of Appeal in Zamfara and Katsina States.
The NJC reaffirmed its dual commitment to upholding judicial accountability while protecting judges from baseless or malicious accusations that could undermine the integrity of the judiciary.
