Actor Nosa Rex Clashes with Director Over Dangerous River Scene

Nollywood actor and content creator Nosa Rex, popularly known as Baba Rex, recently got into a heated argument with a movie director over being ordered to dive into a river for a scene.

In a video posted on his Instagram page, the director demanded that Baba Rex dive into the river to retrieve treasures, a task not mentioned in the actor’s script. The director claimed he had just received inspiration for the scene, leading to a tense exchange.

Baba Rex firmly refused, urging the director to lead by example if he was so inspired. In his caption, Baba Rex made it clear that he would never dive into any river, even for N20 million, stating,

OGA director, even if you give me 20M, I will not dive into the river, sir. I don’t need Abuja treasure, sir.”

The post garnered numerous comments from fellow celebrities, with Nkechi Blessing humorously asking if they had given the water the script too, and Etinosa Idemudia suggesting the director would be shouting “action” in vain. The situation highlights ongoing safety concerns within the Nollywood industry, particularly following the recent tragic death of actor Junior Pope, who drowned at Anam River while returning from a movie set.

The Actors Guild of Nigeria responded to Junior Pope’s death by banning filming near riverine areas and suspending the use of boats in movie productions. Many celebrities have since criticized the industry’s lack of proper safety measures. Yvonne Jegede and Ini Edo both stressed the need for better regulation and structure within Nollywood to prevent further tragedies. Upcoming actress Sarah Martins blamed poor planning and inadequate safety protocols for such incidents, while Jide Awobona defended the industry’s practices but acknowledged the risks involved.
