NYSC withdraws corp members

Prof. Sylvia Agu the Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC) in Imo State, has expressed fears ahead of the 2023 general elections as National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) withdrew its members serving as ad hoc staff in three local government areas over security challenges.

The affected councils are Orsu, Orlu and Okigwe. Agu spoke to journalists during the inspection of electoral materials at the CBN chapter at Owerri, she explained that the NYSC Director withdrew its members when it was discovered stakeholders had violated the initial arrangement of holding the election at a central point other than the Polling Units.

According to her,

“when the arrangement to collapse the Registration Areas(As) was discarded, the NYSC director had to withdraw their members because of their safety”.

She described the challenge as a minor issue, but the committee has decided to replace the NYSC members with students and arranged for them to be retrained before Saturday.
