Ogun APC suspends former Governor Gbenga Daniel over anti-party allegations

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has officially suspended Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of the state and current senator representing Ogun East.

The suspension, ratified by the party’s State Working Committee (SWC), also includes Kunle Folarin, identified as a loyalist to the senator. The action stems from allegations of serious misconduct and anti-party activities committed by both individuals.

According to a statement from the party’s spokesperson, Nuberu Olufemi, the suspension process began at the ward level. A disciplinary committee was established by Ward 4 in the Sagamu Local Government Area to investigate the allegations against Daniel.

A separate committee from Ward 6 was set up to examine the charges against Folarin. Both men received written invitations to appear before these committees to present a defence or seek a pardon, but failed to respond, provide a written statement, or attend the scheduled meetings.

The committees also received reports that the suspended members were actively harassing other party members and pressuring them to withdraw the petitions. This interference was seen as an attempt to undermine the disciplinary process.

Following deliberations and a review of the available evidence and witness accounts in their absence, the ward committees resolved to suspend Daniel and Folarin indefinitely pending further investigation.

The party’s State Working Committee has now ratified these suspensions, underscoring its commitment to maintaining internal discipline and adhering to its constitution.

This development occurs amidst persistent rumours of a political feud between Senator Daniel and the incumbent state governor, Dapo Abiodun, a tension previously highlighted by the state government’s move to mark a hotel and residence linked to the senator for potential demolition.
