The Ogun State House of Assembly has taken action to eradicate the threat caused by land grabbers’ relentless attacks on communities.
The State Anti-Land Grabbing Law of 2016 will be amended, according to the State House of Assembly.
To put this into practice, the legislators said they will organise a stakeholders’ conference on the revision of the law titled, “The Prohibition of Forcible Occupation of Landed Properties Law 2016.”
The study would provide the Assembly the opportunity to deal with “the rampant cases of land grabbing” that have lately been reported in the state.
Speaking in response to certain members’ petitions during a plenary session on Thursday at the Assembly Complex in Abeokuta, Speaker Olakunle Oluomo made this clear.
The Speaker strongly denounced the recent “life-threatening and violent conduct of landgrabbers” in the state.
He pointed out that in order to provide the legislation a more effective implementation framework, the change became essential in order to take into account the various viewpoints of significant players in the concerned sector.
Oluomo praised the Ogun State Surveyor General for establishing a taskforce to enforce the Anti-Land Grabbing Law and stated that the Ogun 10th Assembly remained dedicated to working with relevant professional bodies in addition to government ministries, departments, and agencies to swiftly amend the law.
