Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has praised President Bola Tinubu for signing a series of tax reform bills into law, describing the move as a significant milestone for Nigeria’s economic progress.

Governor Abiodun highlighted the expected benefits of the reforms, including relief for low-income earners, support for small businesses, improved revenue generation, and a simplified tax system.

The governor commended the inclusive approach taken by the president, noting that the reforms incorporated input from various stakeholders, including the business community, regional organisations, and the Nigerian Governors’ Forum.

He emphasised that the legislation reflects years of advocacy for transparency and efficiency in tax administration, ensuring a clearer link between tax collection and the utilisation of public funds.

One key aspect of the reforms, according to Governor Abiodun, is the fair distribution of Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue, which he said would enable state governments to execute more development projects without excessive reliance on federal allocations.

“The signing of these four tax reform bills marks a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s prosperity,” Governor Abiodun stated. “These measures are well-researched, economically sound, and designed to ease the burden on citizens while promoting investment and job creation. By simplifying taxation and protecting vulnerable groups from excessive levies, the reforms align with the demands of a growing economy.”

He expressed optimism that the new laws would enhance Nigeria’s business environment, attract investment, and ultimately improve the standard of living for citizens.

“This is a clear signal that better days are ahead for all Nigerians,” he concluded. The governor urged citizens and businesses to embrace the tax reforms, assuring them that the policies would foster sustainable economic development.
