The Ogun State Police Command has officially refuted viral social media reports claiming recent attacks by herdsmen along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, addressed journalists in Abeokuta, stating unequivocally that no such killings have occurred in the state. He clarified that a disturbing picture being circulated online is not new and is unrelated to any recent event; it was taken in 2010 following a tragic motor accident.
Oyeyemi strongly condemned the spread of this misinformation, labelling it a senseless rumour designed to create panic and disrupt public peace. He confirmed that the command has launched a full investigation to identify the individuals responsible for creating and disseminating the false narrative.
The police described those behind the rumour as enemies of the state and assured the public that they would be apprehended and brought to justice.
Regarding separate claims that herdsmen had sacked 30 schools in the Ketu community, the police spokesperson also provided reassurance. He stated that the Commissioner of Police has taken proactive measures by deploying additional police officers to the area to ensure the safety and security of residents.
The command has urged the public to remain calm and to rely only on official information from security agencies, dismissing the circulating reports as entirely false and malicious.
