Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has expressed his regret at the state of the state’s education system.

Governor Adeleke also stated that circumstances have deteriorated in all sectors, necessitating immediate action.

The Governor made these remarks while receiving report on the recently concluded three-day Education Summit.

The summit, convened at the request of the state administration, aimed to reorient education in the state.

The former Senator promised to be committed to thoroughly analysing the report and executing its suggestions in order to resurrect education from its slumber.

The State Governor thanked the Committee members for their dedication and selfless work in helping to make the summit a success and expressed his delight over its accomplishment.

According to him:

“You delivered on your mandate. I promise that my administration will do all within its power to reposition education in Osun and make students of public schools compete favourably with those in the private schools.”

He bemoaned the fact that pupils study with leaking roofs and vowed to have all deteriorated structures replaced so that children may learn in a comfortable setting.

Governor Adeleke lamented the frequency with which school-age children are utilised for street peddling and vowed to stop it.

In addition, he stated that his government will restructure all areas of Osun’s economy, including the tourist and healthcare sectors.

Professor Oyesoji Aremu, the Committee’s head, said that the 16 members of the Committee worked hard to restructure the Osun education system properly when presenting the report to the Governor.

According to Aremu, the last time Osun had a good WAEC score was in 2018, when she finished seventh in the federation, and things have only gotten worse since then.

He noted:

“According to UNICEF, Osun is leading in the Southwest with out of school children. This calls for quick attention of the Government.”
