Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has disclosed that his government is now trying to introduce a new minimum salary for the state’s civil officials.
Governor Adeleke made the announcement on Saturday at the grand finale of Osun State University’s 14th convocation event, which took place at the institution’s main campus in Osogbo.
Adeleke also stated that his administration is working to solve the issues brought by the elimination of gasoline subsidies, which has increased worker responsibilities.
He informed government employees that actions were being made to mitigate the impact, including proposals for a new minimum salary.
Adeleke said:
“We are working on the modalities for the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage. This is part of our commitment to mitigating the impact of recent economic changes on workers in the state.”
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the expansion of Osun State University, saying that different steps had been adopted to assist the school.
Among these initiatives, Adeleke cited the building of an office complex on the Isale-Osun campus to help the university’s health program accreditations.
According to the Governor Adeleke:
“We have also supported the university towards the construction of its ultra-modern Anatomy Complex which we commissioned earlier today.
“We have also prioritised the construction of roads leading to the student area at Sasha Market and other campuses of our University.
“We paid a year’s arrears promptly to the staff members. We have also paid palliative allowances to all workers, and we are currently working on the modalities for the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage,” Adeleke added.
