The government of Governor Seyi Makinde has ordered the reopening of 23 schools in four local government areas of Oyo State following a protracted border dispute that lasted for ten years.
Barrister Bayo Lawal, the state’s Deputy Governor on Thursday, intervened on the matter, prompting the schools’ reopening.
The impacted local government areas include Atiba, Afijio, Oyo East, and Oyo West in the state.
Barrister Lawal waded into the boundary crisis, which resulted in the shutdown of local government schools for ten years.
Barr. Lawal, who also serves as the chairman of the State Boundary Committee, charged the chairmen of Atiba, Afijio, Oyo East, and Oyo West LGAs to ensure security and peace in their domains during a stakeholder meeting held at the Western Hall, Secretariat, Ibadan, to devise strategies for resolving the age-old land dispute.
He cautioned that if there are any security breaches, the Chairmen will be held accountable.
The Deputy Governor also mentioned that the Ministry of Education will monitor the schools when they reopen.
He said that the ministry will do all is necessary to get the youngsters back to school.
He also urged members of the Oyo State House of Assembly who represent the affected areas to cooperate with community leaders to ensure that children return to school.
