Pastor Giwa says only Atiku-Obi joint ticket can defeat Tinubu in 2027

Adewale Giwa, Senior Pastor of The Second Coming of Christ Ministry, has stated that only a joint presidential ticket featuring Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition can successfully challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

The clergyman warned that the opposition alliance would fail if Obi insists on running as the coalition’s presidential candidate rather than supporting Atiku.

In an interview with newsmen, Pastor Giwa argued that while both politicians command significant followings, Atiku possesses stronger political influence nationwide.

He emphasised that Obi, though popular, would struggle to secure sufficient votes outside the Southeast. “The coalition will be better if Atiku and Obi come together—only their joint ticket can defeat the ruling party,” Giwa said. “If Obi is picked as the presidential candidate, I don’t see victory for the coalition. Atiku-Obi is the winning combination because Tinubu lacks strong Northern or Southern support beyond his Southwest base.”

The pastor further suggested that Atiku could facilitate power shifting to the Southeast after his presidency, stating, “If Atiku becomes president, I believe he would reliably hand over to someone from the Southeast.”

However, Giwa expressed scepticism about the region producing a victorious presidential candidate under current political conditions, noting, “No matter how popular a Southeastern candidate is, the system won’t allow their victory now.”

Giwa urged Obi to accept the vice-presidential slot, reasoning that the former Anambra governor’s participation in a joint coalition ticket would indicate his willingness to compromise. “Obi tested his popularity in 2023. By joining this alliance, he likely understands Atiku’s superior political strength and would step down for the greater opposition victory,” the cleric concluded.
