Members of the PDP, or Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees and the party’s Convention Zoning Committee convened separate meetings in Abuja on Monday afternoon in preparation for the upcoming National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for later the same day.

The zoning committee, chaired by Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State, met at the Legacy House, while the Board of Trustees gathered at the party’s Wadata Plaza headquarters. Both meetings were focused on finalizing key recommendations to be presented to the NEC for approval.

The Convention Zoning Committee is expected to present its decisions regarding the zoning of the party’s principal offices and the highly significant presidential nomination slot.

These recommendations are considered crucial for maintaining internal harmony and strategic positioning ahead of future elections. Simultaneously, the Board of Trustees emphasized the importance of party unity and called on all members to work collectively to ensure the successful holding of the national convention as planned in November.

This flurry of activity follows a recent warning issued by PDP governors during their seventh meeting in Gusau, Zamfara State, on August 23.

The governors expressed strong support for the resolutions made during the party’s 101st National Executive Committee meeting in July and cautioned against any attempts to disrupt the scheduled November 15 national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

They specifically addressed the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, and other members, urging them not to undermine the convention.

The governors reaffirmed their view of the PDP as a vital democratic institution and the only viable alternative capable of restoring Nigeria to a path of good governance and sustainable development.

The outcomes of these high-level discussions are expected to shape the party’s direction and cohesion in the coming months.
