The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the state’s leading opposition group, has demanded answers from Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma. They seek explanations regarding the approximately N206 billion in local government (LG) funds his administration is believed to have misused. Collins Opurozor, the party’s publicity secretary, announced during a news conference at the party secretariat.

Opurozor alleges that the government dismantled the local government system established by law, intending to foster and sustain democracy.

“Senator Uzodimma must without any further delay, tell the people the whereabouts of the N206 billion he has received belonging to the local governments,” he said.

“This is a huge tragedy! Imo is a state that has over 70 per cent of its entire population living in rural areas. Yet, the only channel through which governance can be delivered to the people has been completely run aground,” he also alleged.

He lamented that since last week, strange things had begun to occur in Imo State and accused the state administration of launching a campaign of disinformation, falsehoods, and deception as part of their likely plan to win the upcoming governorship election on November 11, 2023.

Hon. Declan Emelumba, Imo State commissioner for communication and strategy, allegedly spread the rumour that the state chapter of the PDP had finalized arrangements to hold a demonstration. The PDP spokesperson accused him of this regarding the rise of insecurity in the state.
