On Wednesday, the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre completed the training of 157 army personnel assigned for a peacekeeping mission in Abyei, South Sudan.

The forces, principally from Nigerian Company 2 to the United Nations Interim Security Force in Abyei (NIGCOY 2 UNISFA), included 15 officers and 142 men.

Maj. Gen. Boniface Sinjen, Chief of Operations, Army Headquarters, addressed the troops at their pre-deployment graduation ceremony, stating that the event demonstrated the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s commitment and capacity to deploy quality peacekeepers as part of its contributions to global peace and security.

According to him, Nigeria’s national defence policy is centred on Africa’s security and stability, with a particular emphasis on the West African subregion.

He stated that Nigeria continues to pursue global peace and security by contributing to and participating in peacekeeping missions across the world.
