Pete Davidson, the Saturday Night Live star, has been in the news lately due to a break-in at his home. The break-in was carried out by a female stalker by the name of Michelle Mootreddy in 2021. However, recent development in the case claims that Mootreddy has a mental condition. She has been deemed unfit to stand trial by the Staten Island District Attorney’s office because of said condition. She has been placed in a psychiatric facility to receive treatment and regular evaluations. This will determine if she will be able to participate in her defence.
Mootreddy allegedly snuck into Davidson’s home through a side door while he was not home, but a relative was present. When confronted, she claimed that Pete had invited her and that she was there for him. Law enforcement sources claimed that Mootreddy believed that she had a “telepathic love connection” with the comedian.
She was taken into custody and charged with a felony count of second and third-degree burglary. This is alongside two misdemeanour counts of stalking and two misdemeanour counts of criminal trespass and harassment. The court also issued orders of protection for Davidson, his mother, and his sister.
According to prosecutors in the case, Mootreddy had been sending unwanted letters and presents to Davidson’s home. She had falsely claimed to the media two years ago that she and Davidson were married, and her behaviour had involved numerous instances of stalking.
This incident highlights the dangers of stalking and the need for individuals to seek help if they are struggling with mental health issues. Davidson has had numerous high-profile relationships in the past, but this incident shows the need for celebrities and public figures to have increased security measures to protect themselves from overzealous fans or stalkers.
