Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 10 individuals in Ogboji, located in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The victims, described as innocent citizens, were attacked by yet-to-be-identified assailants in what has been described as a senseless act of violence.
Expressing his grief over the incident, Obi took to his verified social media platform on Wednesday to demand an immediate and thorough investigation into the killings. He urged security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.
“I am deeply saddened by the gruesome killing of 10 innocent citizens in Ogboji,” Obi stated. He emphasised that the murder of defenceless Nigerians by criminal elements must never be tolerated or normalised in society.
Extending his condolences to the bereaved families, he also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the attack.
Peter Obi further stressed the importance of upholding the fundamental rights of citizens to live, move, and assemble peacefully without fear of violence. “This act of unprovoked violence is totally unacceptable,” he said. “No individual or group should be allowed to operate above the law.”
Calling for decisive action from authorities, the former Anambra State governor insisted that justice must not only be served but must also be seen to be done. He argued that such measures are crucial in restoring public confidence and deterring future acts of violence.
Peter Obi reiterated the need for strengthened security measures to protect lives and property across the nation.
The tragic incident has sparked renewed concerns over insecurity in the region, with many calling for increased security presence and community-based strategies to prevent further attacks. As investigations continue, residents remain hopeful that the perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions.
