The Edo State House of Assembly has passed a resolution instructing the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, to convene a seven-member committee to investigate the charges of gross misconduct brought against the Deputy Governor, Phillip Shaibu.
According to sources, the House passed the measure in plenary on Tuesday.
Nineteen of the House’s 24 members supported the measure.
Earlier, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku informed the House that the deputy governor’s seven-day deadline to respond to the impeachment notification had elapsed.
Agbebaku stated that the impeachment notice was served on the deputy governor on March 6, 2024, but owing to suspected evasion of service, the House ordered that he be served via substituted methods.
He stated that the substituted service was published on March 12, 2024, in the state-owned newspapers The Observer and the Vanguard.
According to him, the notification had expired by March 19.
