BBNaija reality star Phyna recently stirred up conversations on social media after tweeting her thoughts on how men perceive women who ask for money. Her tweet read:

“Enough of men complaining that ladies are always asking for what their father cannot give them. But they have forgotten the ladies also give them what their mother can’t give them. Good morning.”

Phyna has always been outspoken on topics she deems important. A notable instance was when she shared her thoughts on the tragic death of Kenyan athlete Rebecca, who was set on fire by her boyfriend. Phyna reflected on her own past, stating that she was grateful for leaving her abusive ex-boyfriend, as she could have suffered a similar fate.

Her recent comments about women providing men with things their mothers cannot have triggered mixed reactions across social media platforms. Here are a few of the notable responses:

  • @chiyemkem: “Sisterhood is proud of Phyna.”
  • @sonita_the_virtuous: “Can your mother give you what the women are giving you?”
  • @mayorsoj: “I never see one single BBN Graduate wey get sense.”
  • @princess_star: “She’s right, but nobody should feel entitled. It’s something both genders can do out of love.”
  • @ududanker: “To see a BBN graduate with sense is very, very hard.”
  • @jernald_couture: “Anyone can make money. I can. You can. The sex is what we both need. Sadly, this generation has made it transactional and one-sided.”

Phyna’s comments also caught the attention of social media activist Very Dark Man, who strongly criticized her statement about women giving men what their mothers cannot. In a video, he accused Phyna of making senseless statements and attacked the idea that relationships should be transactional.

He extended his critique by saying that if men remained faithful to their wives, many luxury homes in places like Lekki would be empty, as they are filled with women sponsored by married men. Very Dark Man took further jabs at “big girls” in cities like Abuja, Benin, and Port Harcourt, alleging that much of their lavish lifestyles are funded by men.

While he acknowledged that some women work hard to earn their wealth, he suggested that the majority of wealthy women in Nigeria rely on male sponsors. He questioned how women with modest incomes could afford luxury items like expensive wigs or cars costing over 70 million Naira, implying that these are gifts from married men.
