Over 100 people have been slain in Plateau state’s Riyom and Mangu local councils, prompting the authorities to impose a 24-hour curfew.Gov. Caleb Mutfwang’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr. Gyang Bere, issued the directive in a statement on Sunday in Jos.

During a ceremony at the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria (EYN), the governor stated that the night attacks in Sabon Gari village resulted in the burial of 11 individuals early Saturday morning. In addition, several attacks on the local government and Riyom Local Government allegedly claimed the lives of over 100 people, caused damage to farmlands and property, and displaced villages.

The statement indicates that the governor instructed to restore law and order after consulting with the State Security Council—meanwhile, Maj.-Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar, the Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), announced that the operation’s headquarters have temporarily relocated to Mangu Local Government Area (LGA).

These developments involve OPSH, a Special Military Task Force tasked with maintaining peace in Plateau and the surrounding areas.

The commander stated;

“I have relocated the headquarters of OPSH here so we can work with the local authority.

“We will stay here until we stabilise the situation.

“The governor is disturbed with the happenings, and that is why I am personally here to lead my troops.

“We won’t allow the situation to deteriorate further. We are not here to joke; and so we will be decisive, fair and firm,” Abubakar said.
