The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the successful arrest of five individuals connected to separate criminal activities, including a motorcycle theft syndicate and the distribution of illegal drugs within the state capital.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, the arrests were the direct result of intelligence-led operations initiated under the directive of the new Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu.

The first breakthrough occurred when operatives from A Division acted on a tip-off from a concerned citizen regarding a group stealing motorcycles in the Bakaro area of Bauchi metropolis.

A sting operation was promptly launched by a team under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Musa Alhaji Hassan.

This operation led to the arrest of two suspects, Abdulhamid Auwal and Aliyu Rabiu, both 20 years old and residents of Bakaro.

During questioning, the duo confessed to burgling a residence and stealing a Bajaj motorcycle, which they subsequently dismantled, packed into a sack, and sold. Their confession also revealed the involvement of two other individuals, Mahmood Mahmood and Ganiya, who are linked to the same theft ring.

In a separate operation conducted by the Command’s Rapid Response Squad, three additional suspects were apprehended on August 23 during a routine visibility patrol near the Asorock Mountain in Wuntin Dada.

The suspects, Hussaini Lawal, Baba Sadiq Ibrahim, and Wada Yusuf, were arrested inside an abandoned building while they were distributing dried leaves believed to be cannabis sativa. A variety of items were recovered from the scene, including a half block of cannabis, several knives, scissors, numerous lighters, shredded tobacco, and a makeshift bunker. One of the suspects admitted to having been involved in the drug trade for over a year and provided information implicating his accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police has reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to eradicating criminal activities and maintaining public safety throughout Bauchi State. All suspects remain in police custody as investigations into both cases continue.
