CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, the Commissioner of Police for the Niger State Police Command, recovered 15 pump action rifles from suspected gunrunners and weapons traffickers in the state.
The Commissioner made the announcement on Wednesday at a news briefing and parade of 23 alleged offenders at the State Police Command headquarters.
He said that on August 4, 2024, at around 1900hrs, a police patrol squad from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit assigned to SCID Minna intercepted a Toyota Corolla car, red in colour, with registration number DKA 877 HJ while on regular patrol along Maikunkele-Tegina Road in Minna.
According to him:
“The vehicle was intercepted with three occupants, including the driver, and in the course of interrogation, surprisingly on the guise to ease themselves, the occupants took to their heels and upon the search of the vehicle, fifteen (15) automatic pump action rifles were found with thirty (30) cartridges concealed in a sack in the vehicle.”
The Commissioner indicated that a determined effort was being made throughout the investigating process to hunt down the owner of the aforementioned car and apprehend the fleeing suspects in order to determine the source and purpose of the pump action rifles.
Danmamman stated that if the fleeing suspects were apprehended together with the vehicle’s owner, the perpetrators would be prosecuted in court and charged with a crime.
He added that the case was still being investigated by the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) in Minnesota.
