The White House has denied allegations that President Joe Biden is considering leaving the presidential campaign.
Andrew Bates, the White House Senior Deputy Press Secretary and Deputy Assistant to the President, called the New York Times claim fake.
Bates posted on X:
“This claim is absolutely false and if we had been given more than 7 minutes we could have communicated this before it was publicized.
“That claim is absolutely false. If the New York Times had provided us with more than 7 minutes to comment we would have told them so.”
Bates was reacting to a New York Times story that Biden has informed his associates that he is considering leaving the presidential race.
The newspaper cited an unidentified source as saying of Biden, “He knows if he has two more events like that, we’re in a different place,” alluding to last week’s presidential debate, in which Biden performed poorly.
It further stated that President Biden had warned a close ally that he understood he would not be able to save his candidature if he could not persuade the people in the coming days that he is qualified for the post following a terrible debate performance last week.
