President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, concluding a two-week official visit to Japan and Brazil.
The presidential jet touched down at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the early hours of Thursday, arriving at 1:20 am.
The President was welcomed upon arrival by a delegation of high-ranking government officials, demonstrating the significance of his return.
Among those present to receive him were the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; along with several ministers and special advisers.
President Tinubu had originally departed Abuja on Friday, August 15, 2025, making an initial stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before continuing his journey to Japan.
The core of his itinerary in Japan was his attendance at the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development, held in the city of Yokohama from August 20 to 22.
Beyond the conference, his schedule included a series of high-level bilateral meetings and engagements with the chief executive officers of prominent Japanese companies that currently maintain and are considering future investments in Nigeria.
Following his engagements in Japan, the President travelled to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, for a state visit. This leg of the journey was conducted at the formal invitation of the Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, underscoring the continued effort to strengthen international partnerships and diplomatic relations.
