Rescue our remaining abducted Chibok girls, parents plead with Federal Government

Members of the Chibok Parents Association have called on the public to remember the remaining 108 Chibok girls who are being held captive by Boko Haram extremists.

They encouraged the authorities to continue the search and rescue mission to find and return the girls.

The request was made during a screening of the film “Statues Also Breathe,” which was organised by the SAB Art Foundation and the CPA.

The event, which included conversations with the artists, a CPA official, and two of the rescued girls, took place in Lagos on Thursday.

The film depicts the collaborative process of sculpting and remembering the remaining abducted girls by some of the freed girls.

One of the Chibok girls’ parents, Yahi Bwata, described how 57 of the abducted girls jumped out of their kidnappers’ truck in 2014.

He also stated that, although then-President Goodluck Jonathan intervened in the rescue mission, the impact was little.

While translating Saratu Samuel’s message from Hausa to English, journalist and media entrepreneur Kadaria Ahmad stated that the abducted girl’s father died as a result of the trauma of her kidnapping and protracted absence.

She said:

“There are a lot of parents who are distressed, not knowing is perhaps the hardest thing. Her prayer is for everybody here who has a platform to continue ensuring that the story of the Chibok girls does not die. Thank you, everybody, for taking an interest, and please keep praying for their families.
