The governorship candidate for Labour Party Governor Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and Peoples Democratic Party counterpart, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, alias Jandor, have asked before the Lagos State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal to invalidate the March 18 governorship election result, won by the All Progressives Congress’s candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Rhodes-Vivour, in his April 9, 2023 petition entitled EPT/LAG/GOV/04/2023, rejected Sanwo- Olu. He asked the court to overturn Sanwo-Olu’s victory because the APC candidate was not qualified to run in the election.

The LP candidate, in his petition, contended that Sanwo-Olu’s emergence as the winner –

“was invalid by reason of corrupt practices or non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999. The second respondent was not duly elected by the majority of the lawful votes cast at the election.”

Similarly, the PDP candidate, Jandor, in his petition, stated that Sanwo-Olu and his deputy were also not qualified to contest. Jandor also said the LP candidate, Rhodes-Vivour was not qualified to participate in the election either. He is urging the tribunal to declare all the votes cast for the APC and the LP as wasted votes.

Apart from the PDP and the LP, other parties which filed petitions to challenge the outcome of the governorship election are Allied People’s Movement; and the Action People’s Party.
