Rivers State House of Assembly has initiated an investigation into the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, over allegations of age falsification.
The development comes amid the ongoing political crisis in the state, fueled by the power struggle between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
A new dimension was added to the crisis on Thursday when the alleged age falsification of the Chief Judge became a key issue during the Assembly’s plenary session. The matter was raised after the Leader of the House, Hon. Major Jack, presented certain documents to the Speaker.
Afterwards, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Dumle Maol, raised an allegation against the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Simeon Amadi, saying:
“These documents before me simply say that the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Simeon Amadi, falsified his age in service. Mr. Speaker, that is a very serious allegation, and I do hope that this House takes legislative notice.”
Following deliberations, the House resolved to formally request the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the claims and report its findings. The resolution was put to a vote and subsequently approved.
“The documents are only suggesting a case of age falsification by the Honourable Chief Judge of the state, Justice Simeon Amadi. What it means is that there has to be an investigation to that effect,” the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, said.
The decision marks a significant escalation in the state’s political tensions, with the investigation into Justice Amadi potentially adding another layer of controversy to the ongoing power struggle.
