The Rivers State Election Petitions Court received 34 petitions from various political parties that participated in the state’s general election. Journalists report that the tribunal will be sitting at the Rivers State Judiciary Complex and has names of parties and their candidates challenging the outcome of the election.
Part of the petition received by the court is from Labour candidate for Governor Beatrice Itsubo. The All Progressives Congress’ Patrick Tonye-Cole and one other are also challenging the victory of the PDP candidate, Siminialayi Fubara.
The victory of the three Senators-elect, all from the PDP; Senator Barry Mpigi for Rivers South East, Allwell Onyeso for Rivers East and Ipalibo Harry-Banigo (current Deputy Governor) for Rivers West as well as some state constituencies, are all being challenged by candidates of different political parties.
It was gathered that the APC and the Labour Party have secured ex parte orders from the court. They will be able to obtain the Certified True Copy of the election results. Also, they can inspect materials used in the conduct of the just concluded elections.
