Sen. Sani Questions Pres. Tinubu’s ‘Working Vacation’ in Europe

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has publicly criticised the terminology used by the Presidency to describe President Bola Tinubu’s current trip to Europe.

The Presidency had characterised the journey as a “working vacation,” a phrase the senator finds contradictory and unclear.

In a post on his social media platform X, Sani expressed his confusion with the term, stating, “I understand the word ‘working’. I understand the word ‘vacation’. The sentence ‘working vacation’ is something else.”

His comment highlights a scepticism regarding the nature of the trip and the transparency of the official communication surrounding it.

This reaction follows an official announcement from the Presidency, which disclosed that President Tinubu departed Abuja to commence his 2025 annual leave. According to a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the President is scheduled to be away for a period of ten working days.

The statement further detailed that President Tinubu will divide his time between France and the United Kingdom before concluding his trip and returning to Nigeria. The use of the term “working vacation” was intended to convey that the President will continue to engage with matters of state while abroad, though the explanation has evidently not satisfied all observers, leading to questions about the blend of official duties and personal time during the visit.
