The Senate voted Wednesday to name one of its committee rooms after the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun.

Oba Balogun, 81, died on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at University College Hospital Ibadan, two years after rising to the throne on March 11, 2022.

Senator Sharafadeen Ali (APC Oyo South) sponsored a motion for the late monarch’s immortalisation, which was followed by the Senate resolution.

In his motion, Ali addressed the Senate that the late Olubadan was an exceptional leader, community development, and service-oriented politician, culminating in his election as Senator from 1999 to 2003.

“The late Olubadan was a man of peace and custodian of the culture and values of the Yoruba people,” he said.
