Akpabio is Wrong for Exposing How Senators Voted – Deji Adeyanju

Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, has drawn criticism for reportedly disclosing how senators had voted for him. Socio-political activist, Deji Adeyanju deemed Akpabio’s behaviour to be unsportsmanlike.

According to Adeyanju, Akpabio’s decision to reveal how senators voted may cause division in the Senate.

The rights activist tweeted that Bukola Saraki, the former Senate President, tore the list in 2015.

Adeyanju claims:

“What Senate President Akpabio did to his colleagues by exposing those that voted for/ against him publicly is not statesmanly & will divide the Senate.

“He is the first Senate President to do such a thing. Saraki shredded the list in 2015 after the Sergeant at Arms handed it to him.”

The All Progressives Congress, or APC, chose Akpabio as their nominee for Senate President. He was installed as the Senate President on Tuesday during the opening of the 10th National Assembly.

Yari received 46 votes. However, the Senate President received 63 votes to win.
