In a recent statement, media personality and comedian Seyi Law didn’t mince words as he criticized President Tinubu over the newly imposed cyber security levy by the Nigerian government.

The levy, purportedly in accordance with the amended Cybercrime Act of 2024, mandates a deduction from customers’ accounts for cyber security purposes, amounting to 0.05% of the money being sent out.

Expressing his discontent with the directive, Seyi Law lamented the government’s disconnect from the plight of its citizens, labeling the levy as unacceptable. He questioned the rationale behind such a hefty charge, particularly in a country grappling with economic challenges.

Addressing President Tinubu directly, Seyi Law urged for empathy towards the poor, emphasizing the need to alleviate rather than exacerbate their financial burdens. He also called attention to pressing issues such as the announcement and implementation of a new minimum wage, highlighting the lack of tangible progress under the current administration.

Seyi Law’s critique extended to government agencies for failing to effectively communicate the details of the levy, allowing confusion and misinformation to proliferate. He called for a reassessment of the levy by the Central Bank of Nigeria, stressing the need to strike a balance between cybersecurity measures and the financial well-being of Nigerians.
