The Supreme Court deferred judgement on Wednesday in an appeal filed by the People’s Democratic Party and its candidate, Saidu Umar, challenging the election of Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu.
The five-member panel, chaired by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, delayed the case for judgement after hearing arguments from the parties engaged in the appeal.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja upheld Aliyu’s election.
Umar and the PDP claimed that Aliyu and his deputy, Idris Gobir, were ineligible for the gubernatorial election.
They further claimed that the election was not only tainted by anomalies, but was also not carried out in significant conformity with the terms of the Electoral Act 2022.
The court of appeals, however, dismissed their petition for lack of substance.
Unsatisfied, Umar and the PDP petitioned the Supreme Court.
