Nigerian rapper and singer Speed Darlington has been released from police custody, following his arrest after a petition from music star Burna Boy.
Earlier, a fan of the controversial rapper had alleged that Darlington had been missing for three days, with all efforts to reach him proving abortive. The fan speculated that his disappearance might be linked to a recent video he posted online.
Kemi Filani later confirmed that Darlington had been arrested on Friday, following a petition filed by Burna Boy, accusing him of cyberstalking. The rapper’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, disclosed that he had seen the petition and confirmed that Speed was arrested in Lagos, moved between police formations in the state, and later taken to Abuja, where he was detained by the IRT team on allegations of cyberstalking.
Darlington’s mother, Queen, shared her distress in an online video, claiming that Burna Boy and his team were responsible for her son’s detention. She recounted how her son’s gateman informed her that Darlington had been taken away by Burna Boy’s team, pleading with the Grammy winner to secure his release.
After three days in detention, Speed Darlington has been released on bail after meeting the conditions set by the police at the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team’s department in the Guzape Area of Abuja.
